indicator in Chemistry

A substance that changes colour to show acidity, basicity, or the end point of a titration.
An indicator is itself a weak acid or base whose two forms have different colours, so its colour tells you which pH range the solution is in.
Meaning in your language
Examples
- Phenolphthalein is an indicator that stays colourless in acid but turns pink in a basic solution.
- In an NaOH–HCl titration, add two drops of indicator and close the burette the moment the colour changes.
