friction in Physics
The force that opposes relative motion (or attempted motion) between two surfaces in contact.
Friction acts along the surfaces and opposite to sliding. Static friction prevents motion from starting; kinetic friction acts once sliding begins and is usually a bit smaller.

Le frottement agit le long des surfaces et s'oppose au glissement. Le frottement statique empêche le mouvement de démarrer ; le frottement cinétique agit une fois le glissement commencé et est généralement un peu plus faible.
